Bathing waters under the Bathing Water Directive

Finland’s bathing areas exceed the visitor numbers criteria set by the EU Bathing Water Directive as of 2006. Bathing areas have been classified as former, existing and new (in the year). The material has been obtained from the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), but it has been corrected in SYKE and regional centres. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). The data product INSPIRE has been published. In Finland areas with more than 100 visitors per day are included in the monitoring programme. The dataset is originally produced by the National Institute of Public Health (KTL) and it has been later corrected in Finnish Environment Institute and in local ELY-Centres. The dataset has information from 2006. This SYKE’s dataset can be used according to open data license (CC BY 4.0). Inspire compatible dataset has been published. Currently, the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) provides updated data on bathing waters to SYKE, where the spatial dataset is updated, correcting any location errors. The dataset includes informationtion on Finnish bathing waters included in the monitoring system as required by the EU’s bathing water directive from 2006 onwards. Currently National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) provides updated information on the bathing waters to SYKE, where the spatial dataset is updated with possible corrections.
