Dataset description

The material includes objects and areas protected by the Act on the Protection of Building Heritage and its predecessor in the Building Protection Act. The material also includes pending and rejected sites and areas. The data may be incomplete due to possible errors in digitisation and interpretation. The material is part of the Geographical Information on Municipal Planning and Cultural Environment (GISALU) produced by the ELY Centres. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). The temporal and spatial coverage varies from one ELY centre to another. The data does not cover Åland. Purpose: Support the fulfilment of the tasks of the Land Use and Building Act, as well as the preservation of the cultural environment and environmental awareness. For more information: https://geoportal.ymparisto.fi/meta/julkinen/dokumentit/GISALU.pdf In order to preserve the heritage of buildings, buildings, structures, groups of buildings or sites which are relevant to the history of construction, the arts, the construction engineering, the specific environmental values or the use of the building or related events may be protected. The material relates to protection decisions taken in accordance with the Act on the Protection of the Construction Heritage and the preceding Building Protection Act. The documentation does not include sites and areas protected by town plans. The data are based on the decisions of the regional government of the State. The Environmental Responsibility Area of the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment is the responsible area of the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Building Heritage. In the past, the decision-making authority has been the Regional Environment Centre and the Provincial Office. Positive conservation decisions are confirmed by the Ministry of the Environment, formerly the Government. Processing history: The material is produced by the Environmental Responsibility Area of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY). The material is used in ELY Centres to carry out, for example, building protection, the management of the cultural environment, and tasks under the Land Use and Building Act. The data are fully available in the ELY Centres and in environmental management through the Geographical Information System. For other users, the data can be viewed with limited information content in the environmental administration’s internet services. The ELY Centres are responsible for producing and updating the data in their region using the GISALU system. The material is produced in the ELY Centres on the basis of the original decision documents. The ELY Centres digitised the data as a geo-reference to the GISALU system using the ArcGis Geographic Information System.
