Dataset description

The material consists of the demarcation of the central area and the area of commerce. The demarcation is based on 250 m x 250 m statistical rectangles. Both territorial demarcations are uniform at national level. Central areas are areas where the surrounding area is located; clearly more jobs in services, jobs in retail trade and the population. In addition, the central area must be diverse in terms of services, i.e. there must be several locations. different types of public and private services. Central areas are also classified according to their location and size, which makes it possible to distinguish the core centres from the subcentres. Commercial areas are demarcated from outside the central areas. The trading area is defined as a functional area consisting of shops located close to each other, where shop customers may have access to the same parking area or public transport connection and to move from one shop to another on foot. The regions are classified according to the size and location of the area relative to the central regions. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). The 2010 and 2015 versions of the central areas are available. From 2015 onwards, the material will be available every two years. The data for a given year are always completed with a delay of about two years. The trade areas will be available for 2012 and 2017 and from 2017 onwards, the data will be available every two years.
