Dataset description

**[EN]** satellite images monitor the turbidity of the Baltic Sea from ice-free and cloud-free areas from April to October. Water opacity consists of small particles in the water (phytoplankton, minerals or dead organic matter). The amount of opacity is calculated from the 3 rd Reprocessing data of Envisat MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) using the C2R (Case 2 Regional) water quality processor. The data consists of daily observations for the years 2003-2011. The material has a terrain separation capacity of 300 meters. The EO interface and the TARKKA service have data for 2011. All the data as regional statistics can be found in the STATUS service. Purpose of the material: Monitoring of water quality in the Baltic Sea. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). *** **[En]** Satellite remote sensing is used to monitor turbidity of surface water in the Baltic Sea during the open water season from April to October. Areas covered by ice or cloud are excluded from the data. Turbidity represents the clarity of the water. Turbidity is caused by Phytoplankton, minerals or dead organic matter in water. A daily turbidity product have been calculated using Envisat MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) 3 rd Reprocessing data. Satellite data have been processed to turbidity values using C2R (Case 2 Regional) algorithm. The dataset covers years 2003-2011. The spatial resolution is 300 meters. Data for year 2011 is available in SYKE’s WMS service and in TARKKA service. The whole dataset as areal statistics is in STATUS service. Purpose of use: Monitoring of water quality in the Baltic Sea. *** **WMS server/WMS service endpoint**: https://geoserver2.ymparisto.fi/geoserver/eo/wms **WMS level/WMS layer**: MER_FSG_L3_rp2017_turb *** [EN] Daily opacity material consisting of observations from 2003-2011 as a result of remote sensing monitoring. Processing history: Opacity has been interpreted from the 3 rd Reprocessing data of Envisat MERIS satellite instrument. The original satellite data has been downloaded from the European Space Agency (ESA) download services. In the heart rate, the opaque interpretations are calculated using the C2R (Case 2 Regional) water quality processor. [En] Turbidity data from years 2003-2011 for the Baltic Sea. Processing history: The Envisat MERIS 3 rd Reprocessing data have been received from ESA service. The dataset has been processed to turbidity values in SYKE using the C2R algorithm (Case 2 Regional), which includes atmospheric correction. A quality check have been performed for every daily image.
