Dataset description

The forest areas 2018 (Zonation) data, which are important for biodiversity, consists of 12 Zonation analysis results maps (excluding Åland Islands) covering the entire forest in Finland, which describe the biodiversity values of Finland’s forests. The analyses starting with the VMA (6 pcs) cover the whole of Finland and the AMA-based analyses have been carried out by ELY Centres (6 for each centre). The versions are constructed in such a way that the input materials used in the previous version are also included in all subsequent versions. The higher the numerical value of the raster, the higher the region’s priority in terms of forest diversity. The grid size of the results is 96 x 96 meters. As of 15 May 2018, the results cover the whole wooded Finland (in contrast to the delimitation described in the report and previously used, where the areas managed by Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy had been removed from the data). The material contains an additional.lyr file for downloads through SYKE’s download service, where colours and analyses descriptions have been predefined to facilitate the implementation of the materials. This should only be opened up by EMI spatial information programmes. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0) For more information: Finnish-language report on the analyses and their results: https://helda.helsinki.fi/handle/10138/234359 (Fooded Areas of Diversity in Finland — Final Report of Zonation analysis of biodiversity values in wooded habitats) An article on modelling the decay potentials used in the analysis: https://doi.org/10.3390/f11090913 of Dead Wood Potential Based on Tree Stand Data In short, the production and use of print media in three languages: URL: https://geoportal.ymparisto.fi/meta/julkinen/dokumentit/Zonation_metsa_forest_skog_Biodiversity_2018.pdf ************* Forests of high biodiversity value 2018 (Zonation) data-package consists of 12 nationwide raster maps from Finland (excluding Åland Islands). These are all different versions of biodiversity values of Finnish forests. Analyses are done in two scales: NAT = national scale (6 analysis) and REG = regional scale (6 series of analysis), where region = Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. Different versions were built so that each new version included everything that had been included in previous, simpler, analysis versions. The bigger the numeric value in the raster is, the higher the biodiversity value is. Resolution of these raster maps is 96 meters x 96 meters. Ju större numeriskt Värde I raster, Desto Högre biodiversitetsvärde. Rasterkartornas upplösning är 96 x 96 meter. The analyses have been carried out at the Finnish Environment Institute in cooperation with Metsähallitus Nature Services. The results completed in 2016 have been in use by the environmental administration, in particular the ELY Centres, since 4/2016, except for the areas managed by Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy, in accordance with the concession agreements concluded with the Finnish Forestry Centre. 3/2018 results on private landowners became open (Act 419/2011 on the forest information system of the Finnish Forest Centre).
