Nationally valuable rock areas

Rocky areas of high value for nature and landscape conservation. The material supports decision-making when making decisions in accordance with the Land Materials Act and the Construction Act. The material also plays a key role in land-use planning, but does not have a legal status. The data available (as of 17 March 2020) are available in the following areas: Uusimaa, Southwest Finland, South-East Finland, Häme, Päijät-Häme, Pirkanmaa, Central Finland, North Savo, Western Finland, North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, Etelä-Savo, North Karelia and Lapland. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). Data available (as at 1 March 2016) are available in the following areas: Uusimaa, Southwest Finland, South-East Finland, Häme, Päijät-Häme, Pirkanmaa, Central Finland, North Savo, Western Finland, North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, Etelä-Savo, North Karelia and Lapland. Purpose: The material has been created for the use of environmental management to support the management of information on nature reserves. The dataset Nationally valuable rocky areas includes information on nationally valuable rocky outcrop areas for nature and landscape conservation. The dataset is used for decision making processes based on Land Extraction Act and Land-Use and Building Act. The dataset is important for land use planning, but does not hold a legal status. The dataset provides information for Finnish Environmental Authorities responsible for land use planning and control of extraction of rock materials. Other users of this dataset are typically involved in nature conservation, protected areas, museums of natural history or are citizens interested in nature. Includes items produced at different times. Processing history: The material has been produced by digitising the demarcation of the areas on the screen. Basic map raster material has been used as background material. The production of the data has been done by region as the inventory work progresses over several years. The inventory started in the early 1990s. The dataset can be used in accordance to the accuracy and scale of the dataset. The dataset is not legally binding. Features included in the dataset are created separately during longer time period. The dataset was originally Digitised during regional inventories started at early 1990's. The dataset includes area delineations Digitised from a screen using as a source materialtopographical base maps in a raster form.
