Satellite Mosaic (Image2006)

Finland’s IMAGE2006 satellite image mosaic was produced in SYKE as part of the EU’s IMAGE2006 project, which produced a digital satellite image map covering the whole of Western and Central Europe. The material is compiled from satellite images of IRS P6 and SPOT-4, which were filmed in 2005 and 2006, mainly between July and August. Individual satellite images have been ortho-adjusted to national map projections, and then mosaiced as a single satellite image mosaic. In the data, the water and the areas of missing knowledge are almost black, closed coniferous forests are dark green, deciduous forests and vegetated arable land are bright green and areas with low plant cover are red in different shades. Inspire compatible dataset has been published. The IMAGE2006 satellite image mosaic used to produce CLC2006 material consists of 47 IRS P6 satellite images and 36 SPOT 4/5 satellite images. The photos were received in 2005 and 2006. The individual satellite images were first subject to geometric correction in Swedish metrics. The photos were then subjected to radiometric calibration in SYKE, that is to say, the atmospheric correction and the effect of topography in Lapland were also corrected. In addition, cloudy sections were cut out of the photos. The satellite images thus edited formed a photo mosaic covering the whole of Finland, with the exception of a few individual openings. In the Spatial Data Download Service, the image is split into parts to manage the file size.
