Dataset description

Finland’s IMAGE2012 satellite image mosaic has been produced in SYKE through the EU Copernicus Gioland project. It consists mainly of IRS, LISS and RapidEye satellite images of summer and spring. The pixel size of the mosaic is 20 m. In the data, the waters and areas of missing knowledge are almost black, closed coniferous forests are dark green, deciduous forests and vegetated arable land are bright green and areas with low plant cover in different shades of red. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). The data product INSPIRE has been published. Shooting date 04/2011-09/2013 Purpose: Background map and photo interpretation. The material consists of IRS, LISS and RapidEye satellite images taken during the spring and summer. The images were processed with cloud masking and atmospheric correction, after which the images have been tiled into a single mosaic. The pixel size is 20 m. In the data, water areas and areas of missing information show in black, closed coniferous forests in dark green, deciduous forests and vegetated arable lands in bright green, and Sparsely vegetated areas in different shades of red. Accreditation dates 04/2011-09/2013 Usage as a background map and for image interpretation. This SYKE’s dataset can be used according to open data license (CC BY 4.0). Inspire compatible dataset has been published. The IMAGE2012 satellite image mosaic carried out in connection with the production of CLC2012 consists of the following images: IRS LISS (64 photos from May 2012 to August 2013), RapidEye (150 daily mosaics from April 2011 to September 2013), Spot-5 (58 photos from May 2011 to September 2013) and Spot-6 (April 2013 — September 2013). The images have been obtained from journalists ortho-adjusted via the European Space Agency. The cloud interpretation of the images has been performed semi-automatically, i.e. * if there is no cloud mask, the clouds have been interpreted by searching for bright objects in the images, * the cloud mask has been extended symmetrically so that the mask also covers cloud webs and asymmetrically to cover the shadows of the clouds, and * finally the clouds and their shadows are removed from the images. For mosaic, the images have been subjected to radiometric normalisation by matching the histograms of the channels of the images to the histograms of the corresponding area of the IMAGE2000 mosaic. In this phase, stable areas with reflective properties, such as forests and built-up areas, have been used. For mosaicing, the images have been selected with an emphasis on the large area and the moment of midsummer photography. The pixel size of the mosaic is 20 meters and the canals are green, red and near-infra. Image2012_src and related explanatory file image2012_image_ID.xlsx exist for the mosaic. Location data download service In Oiva, the image is split into parts to manage file size.
