Dataset description

The data set shows the municipal division in the country with the most accurate boundaries registered digitally and that are collected in one dataset. The data set has been updated with the municipal border adjustments between Midtre Gauldal and Holtålen applicable from 1 April 2022. In addition, two small increases in quality of municipal boundaries between Bykle and Valle (between Rv9 and Otra) and between Nome and Midt-Telemark (on Rv36). Municipalities are bounded by the following types of border: national border, territorial border, demarcation line in sea, county border and municipal border. In addition, the data set includes baseline and 1 nautical mile, which are legal lines off the coast. The surfaces contain properties that tell about official municipal numbers. The official Norwegian, Sami and Kven names for the municipalities are taken from the SSR. In addition, there is information about Sámi administrative areas. The geometry is derived from the matricle, which is updated by the municipalities. National boundaries and territorial boundaries are entered from the Norwegian Mapping Authority’s own established files.
