Dataset description

The data set shows sensitive areas due to bathing water under the Decree on the emission of substances in the discharge of waste water from urban waste water treatment plants (UL RS No 45/07). The Decree transposes into Slovenian law the Council Directive of 21 May 1991 concerning urban waste water treatment (91/271/EEC), which requires the identification of sensitive areas for which specific urban waste water treatment requirements are laid down prior to direct or indirect discharge. The Annex to Directive 91/271/EEC sets out different criteria for the designation of sensitive areas. The criteria are also transposed into the Regulation and include the possibility to identify as sensitive that surface water body where additional treatment is required in addition to that of the Directive itself in order to meet the requirements of other existing Council Directives. In order to achieve the objectives of the Council Directive of 8 December 1975 concerning the quality of bathing water (76/160/EEC), the surface water bodies on which bathing waters are located have been identified as sensitive. The data are intended for the state, local communities and the public, so that, on the basis of the requirements of the Decree on the emission of substances in the discharge of waste water from urban waste water treatment plants (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No 45/07), or on the basis of the data contained in the Operational Programme for the discharge and treatment of urban waste water, they can determine the level of treatment of urban waste water and within which time limits must be provided in the area of interest.
