Dataset description

The project “Geological Research and Basic Cartography in Faja Pirítica y Areas Alardaña” (ICFP), which was carried out by the Mining Service in collaboration with the Spanish Mining Geological Institute, was carried out between 1997 and 1999 and is a deepening of the previous work carried out in this area by both bodies. The winning companies were a temporary Union of companies, INFAPIR, consisting of INIMA, INGEMISA and EPTISA, and CGS. This project includes the study area for the Geology of the Guadalquivir Valley, corresponding to the surrounding areas mentioned in the title of the project. The scope of the project had the following objectives: Update of the basic geological mapping published by IGME as part of the MAGNA programme (National Geological Map at 1: 50.000 level). — Geological mapping update at scale 1: 200.000. — Definition of the stratigraphy of the Guadalquivir basin. Sedimentological and petroleum characterisation of lithostratigraphic units. Knowledge of the techtonic evolution of the study area, with geological cuts that have enabled the interpretation of the structures. Integration of the geophysical information from the subsoil and the surveys, which has made it possible to carry out deep geological cuts, the delimitations of the olistostronomic units in the cuts, the division of the filling of the basin into Genetic Units or U.T.S. and the geometric characterisation of thicknesses of sandy levels for hydrogeological purposes. — Collection and updating of existing information on mineral resources, both metallic and non-metallic and industrial and ornamental rocks. — Collection and updating of existing documentation on hydrogeology throughout the area of study and hydrogeological behaviour of each of the cartographic units on a scale of 1: 200.000 The baseline mapping ensures continuity between the different sheets. Each sheet contains, in turn, a series of thematic layers which may constitute a single layer of information by having lateral continuity. Together with the map, we enclose a memory of each of the sheets, which form the project, describing the geological information contained in the geological maps, including a description of the geological, stratigraphic, petrology, tectonic, geology and techtosedimentary evolution of the area concerned, together with a bibliography used for the drafting of that memory. Information resulting from geological investigations, included in an annexed database, is collected in part. Geological research data consists of the results of a series of studies (absolute ages, clays, palaeontology, micropalaeontology, carbonates petrology, citrus rock petrology, metamorphic rocks petrology, therrygen petrology, alterations and geochemistry) carried out on samples collected during the field campaigns carried out during the project. In addition to the above, there is general information on the project, not associated with the analysis of any specific sample. These are data on mining signs, gravimetric profiles, hydrology, reservoirs, stratigraphic columns and descriptive information of the project.
