Dataset description

The Ossa Morena database is the result of several projects carried out jointly by the following organisations: — The Directorate General of Mines and the Instituto Tecnológico Geominero de España contracted the national company Adaro to carry out the projects called “Preliminary study for the realisation of a database in Ossa Morena” in June 1992 and “Finalisation and use of the Ossa Morena database” in October 1993. — In September 1992 Minas de Almadén y Arrayanes S.A. (MAYASA) contracted Minas de Almadén and Arrayanes S.A. (MAYASA) to carry out the project called “Ossa — Morena — I.- Remote sensing eastern area”. — The Ministry of Industry and Tourism of the Junta de Extremadura contracted in July 1993 the research project “Realisation of a Geological-Minera database of the Ossa-Morena area” to Minas de Almadén and Arrayanes, S.A. (MAYASA). During this period (1985-1992) several mining exploration projects on State Reserves were carried out in this area, covering much of the area studied and in which current research methods were used, with positive results in the metallogenetic knowledge of the Ossa Morena area. The project comprised three distinct phases: — A first, which consisted of the collection and analysis of available geological and mining information. — A second consisted of the application of remote sensing techniques in an extensive area in the central part of the Ossa Morena area, which allow, on the one hand, the spectral characterisation of the different materials that emerge in the work area and, on the other, the realisation of the textural study and the structural analysis of the lines of the LANDSAT image. — And, thirdly, the creation of a multidisciplinary database that allows to order and manage the large amount of information available and can also be used as a methodological tool for prospecting the area. The database was incorporated into SIGMA in 1995, when the final versions of the database were delivered.
