Dataset description
The population mesh 250mx250m prepared by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia, allows for detailed and up-to-date information on the distribution of the population in Andalusia, outside the administrative divisions.
It is a regular mesh of cells of 250 m x 250 m to which, through georeferencing, the population has been assigned starting from the location of the postal address where each of the inhabitants resides, registered on January 1, 2018 in the Longitudinal Population Database of Andalusia.
As long as the statistical secret is not compromised, in addition to the total population, each cell offers sociodemographic information allowing us to know the resident population according to large age groups, nationality, sex, place of birth, time of residence, status of affiliation,
receipt of contributory pension from the Social Security and jobseekers of the Andalusian Employment Service.
The website of the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia offers a visualisation service: “Space Distribution of the Population of Andalusia” that allows its interactive consultation https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/institutodeestadisticaycartografia/distribucionpob/index.htm.
In cases where the principle of statistical secrecy has been compromised, the value of the data has been replaced by the ‘-1’ character. In fields with nationality information, the classifications are as follows:
ESP: population with Spanish nationality.
EU15: population with nationality of one of the member states of the European Union with an entry date prior to 2004 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom and Sweden). Spain is excluded.
MAG, a population with nationality of one of the following Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia). AMS population with nationality of a South American country (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela);
OTR, population with nationality of a country not included in the four groups indicated.
Information on social security membership distinguishes between: total number of members, affiliates by sex, employees and self-employed members.
On November 22, 2019, population data are updated, corresponding to January 1, 2018. In addition, since the 2015 edition, information on contributory pension recipients is incorporated according to sex, type of pension and median income for this concept.
The classification is as follows:
PENCJUB: pensioners receiving exclusively retirement pensions,
PENCVIU: pensioners receiving exclusively widow’s pension,
PENCJYV: pensioners receiving both old-age and widow’s pensions,
PENCINC: pensioners receiving only disability pensions and
PENCOTR: other types of pensioners not included in the previous four fields (orphanhood, in favor of relatives,...)
From 2017 onwards, information on the File of jobseekers registered in the offices of the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE) is included, distinguishing between: total jobseekers, male and female applicants, in addition to total registered unemployment, registered unemployment among men and registered unemployment among women.
In this last edition, for the data for the year 2018, information on the time elapsed in the municipality of residence is offered.
The IECA continues to work to continue to include information that exploits the potential of the integration of statistics, mapping and the exploitation of administrative records.
