Dataset description

The area of the Gesäuseberge between Admont and Hieflau, St.Gallen and Johnsbach has been characterised for centuries by people by colonisation, forest and hunting use, the alpine buoyancy of the Servituts farmers and ultimately by tourism. The careful and sustainable management and use of forests in the so-called Ennsknie ultimately led to the designation of this area as a national park. It is now the task of the responsible local administrators to treat forests in the wild in such a way that they can develop their own natural dynamics, natural succession, mixture and structure according to the prevailing location factors of climate, geology and geomorphology. The instrument for this is provided by the present forest management plan.
