Climate Report 2022.

In 2020, around 73.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent were emitted in Austria. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions were around 6.2 % lower than in 1990. Compared to 2019, this is a decrease of 7.7 %. 2020 was marked by the global coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in a significant reduction in emissions from the transport sector, from energy supply and from industry. In total, the economic sectors not subject to the European Emissions Trading Scheme emitted around 46.5 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2 020. Emissions were thus 1.2 million tonnes below the 2020 ceiling. With the current figures, data are available over the entire target period 2013-2020. By falling below the target levels in 2013-2016 and 2020, the targets for the entire period were met.
