Dataset description

The aim of this project was initially to create a comprehensive aerial image interpretation of biotope and usage types in the Gesäuse National Park on a scale of 1:3,000. Initially, between May and November, 125 km were divided into approximately 7,382 areas and these were interpreted according to the second version of the Habitalp interpretation key. As an additional contract, the extensions of the Natura2000 site were commissioned at the beginning of 2006. The Natura2000 site largely corresponds to the national park boundaries, in a few smaller areas the national park is larger, in some areas the Natura2000 border (especially in the southwest and northwest). Therefore, in contrast to the processing of the national park, the number of polygons, the area size and the statistics of habitat types change for the present study. In essence, however, the character of the landscape remains the same, and thus also the relation of the area sizes. With this work, the National Park has a planning basis from which surface knowledge can be filtered out (natural spatial units, forest boundary, dominating habitats..). Thus, the admission is suitable as a general planning basis, the basis for Natura-2000 surveys and other nature conservation issues, and also allows statements about the structure and composition of the biotopes in the national park.
