Dataset description

On the Scheucheggalm, much of the typical species of this altitude could be observed. The number of species with 28 species is comparable to that in the Haselkar, where 32 species were identified. Only on the Sulzkaralm there is a higher number of species, this mountain pasture is the largest and has a higher number of different habitat types as well as greater structural differences. Compared to the other alpine pastures studied in 2004, Scheuchegg lacks observations of alpine brownelle, blackbird, brook stilt, mountain flakes, acorn hazel, fitis, grey woodpecker, green fink, hazel chicken, house red tail, cleavage, colkrabe, summer gold chicken, stone chipper, tower falcon and water amsel. The cuckoo was only observed on this mountain pasture. While there are no suitable habitats for Alpine brownelles, stone scavengers and water anamsels, the absence of the other species is unexplainable and is presumably partly due to detection deficiencies. The occurrence of Bach’s stilt, acorn hare, house red tail, colkrabe and turtle falcon would be expected in any case. Here, as on all other alpine pastures studied in 2004, the tree pieper is missing. The mountain pieper could only be detected on the Scheucheggalm in the upper part of the alpine pasture on the maximum moderately intensive grazing areas. This shows once again that the species avoids intensively and very intensively grazed areas
