Dataset description

The report of the Federal Environment Agency collects and analyses emission-relevant aspects of the use of single furnaces for solid fuels in Austria. As part of a market study, a stock of 1,368,700 individual furnaces and 53,500 new installations was identified for 2009. Of this, around 38.3 % were distributed through hardware stores in the low-cost segment. The results show that the operation of manually operated single furnaces has a greater impact on air pollutant emissions than technological differences. More than 600 users of individual furnaces were interviewed about individual aspects such as operating times, ignition, post-load intervals or fuel consumption. Emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, total dust and organic gaseous carbon were estimated quantitatively depending on the single furnace category.
