An Adaptation Roadmap for the Austrian Road Infrastructure

In the Adaptation Roadmap, the Federal Environment Agency and the University of Graz describe 25 measures to protect road transport infrastructure from extreme weather events, bring them into a meaningful chronology and prioritise them. In six programmes, the experts recommend — to create the data base for risk assessment and to develop planning tools for measures. — To take measures to reduce traffic and traffic management. — to take account of climate change in road maintenance and in case of unavoidable new construction projects. — to invest in additional measures to protect against weather damage in the existing network. — the road infrastructure is redesigned on a punctual basis and — very maintenance-intensive and difficult to secure roads. The adaptation roadmap was developed in the adapt2to4 project, which was funded by the Climate and Energy Fund as part of the Austrian Climate Research Program.
