Analysis of district heating in Graz

Currently, 70 percent of the district heating is provided to the metropolitan area of Graz at the Mellach site. As of 2020, the City of Graz plans to reorganise the district heating supply as part of the “Heat 2020/2030” project. Among other things, the Puchstraße failure reserve — a gas power plant in the middle of the city — is to be expanded and run in full operation. The report “Analysis of district heating in Graz” examines how district heating could be provided in the future and how the expansion of the Puchstraße site affects emissions and consequently the air quality of the city of Graz. The study contains recommendations for reducing emissions and increasing the efficiency of district heating in Graz. The analysis was carried out on behalf of VERBUND.
