Biological Investigation Programme 2007-2016

In accordance with the Quality Target Ordinance on Ecology Surface Waters (BGBl. II No 99/2010, as amended), the biological quality components Phytobenthos (PHB) (simplified: Algae) and benthic invertebrates (macrozoobenthos, MZB) (simplified: invertebrates) next to the fish fauna and macrophytes (simplified: higher aquatic plants) to determine the ecological status of surface waters. Particularly with regard to the material load, they have a high significance and therefore serve to determine the biological condition with regard to material stress. The results of sampling in the years 2007 to 2016 at Upper Austrian rivers — sampling points of the Biological Analysis Programme (BUP) — are reported. The assessment is carried out via an assignment to one of the 5 status classes: very good, good, moderate, unsatisfactory, bad; The specified environmental objective is to achieve or maintain at least the state class well.
