Dataset description

In the 2010 Climate Protection Report, the Federal Environment Agency analyses greenhouse gas emissions in Austria from 1990-2008 and compares them with the objectives of the Austrian climate strategy. In 2008, the first year of the Kyoto commitment period, greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 86.6 million tonnes. The use of flexible mechanisms or reductions from new forest and deforestation results in a target deviation of around 6.9 million tonnes. In order to minimise the gap to the target value, further domestic action is needed. The additional use of flexible instruments will be necessary to meet the Kyoto Protocol’s commitment. In order to comply with the European Union’s requirements with less flexibility from 2013 onwards, Austria’s energy strategy measures must be implemented immediately and fully.
