Dataset description

In 2006, 308,048 cars were newly registered in Austria, of which 62 % were diesel and 38 % petrol vehicles. The average CO2 emissions are 164 g/km (diesel) and 163 g/km (petrol). The trend towards rising specific CO2 emissions of new cars continues in 2006. While the average CO2 emissions of petrol vehicles continue to decrease, diesel vehicles are increasing. This is mainly due to the increase in average engine power and vehicle weight in this vehicle category. CO2 monitoring is carried out annually and reported to the European Commission. This will review the self-commitment of European, Korean and Japanese car manufacturers’ associations to reduce the specific CO2 emissions to 140 g/km by 2008/2009 by technical means.
