Dataset description

What are Austria-wide trends in the protection measures — taken for biodiversity, the state of biodiversity and risk factors? What are the trends in biotope-type areas? The report answers these questions and gives an overview of the situation of biodiversity in Austria. The results show that the current protection measures are not sufficient to achieve a comprehensive improvement in the state of biodiversity, although some negative trends have been stopped. In particular, hydrological changes and agricultural and forestry uses continue to jeopardise biodiversity. The results of the two case studies on the development of the Great Bustard (Otis tarda) in eastern Austria and salt varnishes at the lake angle are also in line with this Austria-wide pattern.
