Dataset description

From 2001 to 2006, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) loads increased at most traffic monitoring stations in Austria. The main reason for this is increasing NO2 emissions from the transport sector due to increased mileage, the high share of diesel cars in the vehicle fleet and the increase in diesel cars with exhaust aftertreatment systems in Austria. These vehicles cause high direct NO2 emissions. Current calculations of emissions of pollutants per mile travelled show that emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from Austrian vehicles are decreasing due to technical improvements, but NO2 emissions increase. Forecasts up to 2020 show that even with the same traffic performance, NO2 emissions will only decrease slightly and the applicable limit values cannot be met without further measures.
