Forest ecosystem services

Forest ecosystems provide essential ecosystem services used by humans: They protect against natural hazards, serve as a recreation room, supply the raw material wood, cleanse air and water, and act as a carbon reservoir, thereby contributing to climate protection. Their availability depends on the state of the forest ecosystems and on a careful and sustainable use of these resources. In the new report, the Federal Environment Agency has identified 17 forest ecosystem services and assigned them to the areas of economy, health, safety and natural diversity. The aim is to improve knowledge of ecosystems and ecosystem services and to promote their importance in the public interest. The aim is to increase awareness of the need for sustainable use of forest resources.
