Görtschitztal — Research on humans and the environment

The Federal Environment Agency has compiled and interpreted all available monitoring results on the occurrence of hexachlorobenzene in Görtschitztal since 2014. Recommendations for future environmental monitoring and human biomonitoring in the Görtschitztal are derived from the data analyses and findings. The analysis of the data collected up to 2017 shows that the measures taken and the nutritional recommendations are effective. Concentrations of HCB in soil are largely on an order of magnitude that do not lead to any negative effects on food production. Organic farming is also possible without restrictions. The continuation of food and feed controls to a reduced extent is useful in order to identify, if necessary, any increased burdens in time. Monitoring should be condensed in case of possible suspicions.
