Life cycle assessment of alternative drives — comparison of electric vehicles

The use of alternative propulsion and biogenic fuels is becoming increasingly important due to increasing environmental pressures from conventional fossil fuel vehicles. The report examines greenhouse gas and air pollutant balances of electric vehicles and other alternative forms of propulsion in order to assess their potential in comparison to conventional drives and also in comparison to biofuels. The results form a sound basis for the overall balancing of conventional and alternative drive and energy supply options. In almost all categories considered, pure electric vehicles perform best in terms of drive concepts. Renewable electricity as an energy source can significantly increase this effect.
