Dataset description

The entrance of the saddle shaft (cat. no. 1712/7, high gate area) is located a few meters outside the fenced forest pasture area of the Stadlalm (Koderalm). At a depth of about 10 to 15 meters, coarse blockwork forms the inclined back-sloping shaft ground, which is literally sown by bones (Fig. 3). Contiguous skeletal parts, such as sections of the spine or limb parts in the tendon union, are not present. All soft tissues, i.e. muscle, ligament and cartilage tissues, as well as skin, hair, horn sheaths and claws have passed completely. However, the individual bones have an excellent state of preservation, are hardly corroded and show no traces of slaughter or cutting (cut marks or cut marks). Only a few, especially slightly more delicately built elements, are broken, with the fracture surfaces being irregularly and sharply shaped. In some skulls, parts of the bite have failed postmortal. The exact quantities could not be recorded as part of the on-site assessment, but based on the reasonably complete skull remains, significantly more than a dozen individuals could be counted. About half of the animals found are cattle, at least one third of pigs. In addition, the upper skull of a dog, the skull-roof fragment of a goat, as well as some bones of juvenile small ruminants, which could not be determined at species level due to the great osteological similarity of sheep, goat, Gems and Capricorn. The definitive evidence of a wild animal could not be provided.
