Dataset description

The study identified target values for Austria’s final energy consumption from national and European targets. In order to ensure the sustainable supply of renewable energy sources, an intermediate target for 2030 between 820 and 920 petajoules (PJ) should be set for final energy consumption and between 947 and 1,048 PJ for primary energy consumption. The target value for 2040 was calculated at almost 700 PJ final energy consumption, and with increased implementation of energy efficiency measures it is reduced to 630 PJ. It is therefore necessary to expand renewable energy sources to 767-840 PJ by 2040, while at the same time conserving biodiversity and valuable land. Through the implementation of efficiency measures, the resilience of the energy system and added value will be increased and there are positive effects on the labour market.
