Dataset description

The report of the Federal Environment Agency describes the state of the art of plants for ferrous metal processing and plants in Austria. In addition to the presentation of the technologies used (processing of steel by hot rolling, cold rolling, wire drawing and continuous and discontinuous hot-dip galvanising), the legal framework, plant-specific consumption and emissions data as well as measures for emission reduction are described. Environmentally relevant emissions are mainly caused by the heating and heat treatment of steel and the pickling of steel surfaces with acids. In addition, the energy consumption of the furnaces is relevant. The pollutants released are nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, dust, heavy metals and acid vapours in the exhaust air as well as heavy metals, hydrocarbons and solids in cooling and waste water.
