State of the art for the chip and fiberboard industry

The report describes the state of the art of plants for the production of chipboard and fibreboard as well as plants in Austria and Luxembourg. The focus is on manufacturing processes, inputs and products, as well as plant-specific emissions and emission reduction measures associated with the different production processes. In Austria, 2.2 million m³ of chipboard, 0.7 million m³ of medium density fibreboard (MDF) and approximately 70,000 tonnes of fibreboard are produced per year. Production steps and technologies with a high environmental impact are chip drying, fiber drying, pressing, paper impregnation and combustion plants. Emission reduction technologies and thus achievable emission levels for dust, organic carbon compounds, formaldehyde, organic acids, phenol, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide are also presented in the report.
