Dataset description

According to the 2008 Landfill Ordinance, a temporary cover has to be established in landfills where waste with a high biological content has been deposited in the past. This is intended to enable the landfill’s water balance to be managed and the quantities of landfill gas recorded to be increased. The collection and treatment of the generated landfill gas can reduce emissions of greenhouse gas-efficient methane and support climate targets, particularly in the waste management sector. Based on questionnaire surveys, the report describes the status of temporary covers of landfills and their structure. For the years 2008 to 2012, the quantities of landfill gas covered and the respective treatment routes were collected.
