Dataset description

The flow map with multiple streamlines shows the lines in the landscape where the water flows potentially concentrated after a rain shower, taking into account the topography and the watercourses present. The coloring shows the size of the flow area to the pixel (in ha) per pixel of 5 m*5m. The calculation algorithm derives the flowing water in a pixel proportionally to all lower-lying pixels, with the lowest-lying pixel receiving the most flow and the least low-lying pixel receiving the least flow (Multiple Flow Direction). This creates diffuse flow lines that gives a more realistic picture of flooding over a slope. The map is especially useful in case of relatively flat or strongly divergent topography, and on wide homogeneous slopes. The flow map is based on the digital height model and the Flemish Hydrographic Atlas.
