Dataset description

The Landscape Atlas is the result of a rapid survey of the relics of the traditional landscapes in Flanders, based on the available sources of information, map series and the colourorthophotos of around 1990. The layout was made by province, started in 1996 and was completed in 2000. This is therefore the reference period for this inventory. A relic is a remnant of earlier times that still bears witness to the condition that was then. With regard to landscapes, relics can be very diverse in nature and testify to a making history in many cases. Therefore, a classification was made according to the spatial dimension that the relics in the landscape have in relation to the map scale used 1/50.000. Essentially, these are point, line and flat-shaped relics. The categories are therefore point and line offences, relic zones and anchorages.
