Dataset description

Overview of the areas, located in Flanders, within which a management agreement for the development of species rich grassland can be concluded, as determined by Ministerial Decree.Gralands in agricultural use often consist of a limited number of grass species with a high feed value. To increase the diversity of grasses and herbs on such plots, the VLM offers management agreements for the development of species-rich grassland. A management agreement for species-rich grassland means, inter alia, that no pesticides, fertilisers and soil improvers are used on the parcel. In addition, depending on the stage at which the grassland is located, a specific mowing and/or grazing regime should be applied as determined by an expert before the start of the contract. In order to compensate for the loss of yield, the farmer receives an annual remuneration for five years.Management agreements for the development of species-rich grassland can only be concluded on grasslands in demarcated management areas. These management areas are defined by the Flemish Minister, on a proposal from the Institute for Nature and Forest Research (INBO).
