Dataset description

Evolution in thousands of tons of goods (net) transported by rail, road, Belgian waterways and via Belgian airports. In order to be able to better assess the current position of rail freight transport, Infrabel compared its key indicator, representing the net weight transported per year on its network, with other available Belgian indicators. This dataset brings together data from the following sources: Evolution of net tonnage per year: Infrabel open data showing the annual evolution of net tonnage transported by rail. Road freight transport: this data is extracted from Statbel, it concerns the transport of goods by road (on Belgian and foreign territory), carried out by vehicles registered in Belgium with a useful capacity of at least one tonne, expressed in thousands of tons (net) per year. More information on the Statbel website. Inland waterway freight transport: This data is extracted from Statbel. The figures, in thousands of tons (net), relate to inland navigation of all vessels on Belgian waterways, including those from abroad. More information on the Statbel website. Air freight transport: This data is extracted from the FPS Mobility and Transport website. They are provided by the operators of the 6 Belgian airports. More information on the FPS website (in French & Dutch). The data and the proposed dashboard will be updated annually.
