Number of ‘cultural’ tourist attractions

Two key indicators have been defined for attractions: (1) the number of visits made during the year at these attractions. (2) the number of attractions in the entity’s territory (with breakdown by type of attraction for the most recent years). The number of attractions listed is based on the annual guide “[\2](\1)”. The list of attractions considered is intended to be as exhaustive as possible. Other attractions, not included in the guide but corresponding to the definition “place where Belgian or foreign excursionists visit during a day”, were therefore also added to the list and taken into account in the attendance survey. The inventory and survey are carried out by the Walloon Tourism Observatory (OTW) every year. Some attractions in the German-speaking municipalities are taken over and are probed, but completeness is not necessarily sought by the OTW for these German-speaking municipalities. It is possible that in the future the same approach of completeness and survey will be carried out by the German-speaking Community. It should be noted, however, that many attractions in the German-speaking Community are managed by NSOs and that the criteria for defining what an attraction is will not necessarily be similar to those used by the OTW. From 2019, the data is anonymised with the TAUARGUS method. It is possible that the value of some municipalities is hidden even if the total number of attractions is greater than 3. As of that date, the number of visits per province is available in the excel file.
