Dataset description

On the present map, the degree of exceedance of the critical deposition value (KDW) for acidification of the European habitats to be protected in Flanders is shown in the shades of yellow-orange-red. The green areas are the habitats where the KDW (currently) is not exceeded. The grey areas are the habitats that are not sensitive to the effect of acidification by air (> 2400 Zeq/ha.year). The KDW is the amount of acidifying deposition (acid equivalent per hectare per year) for a given ecosystem under which, according to current scientific knowledge, there is no significant change in biodiversity. A specific KDW is determined for each habitat type. Not every type of nature is equally sensitive to acidification. The overshooting card was drawn up by the VITO on the basis of the following data: (A) The modelled depositions of acidifying substances based on VLOPS20, the version of the VLOPS model in 2020 using emission and meteorological data from the year 2017. This is a raster layer with resolution of 1 km²; (B) The BWK habitat card version 2020; and (C) The appropriate extension sites for European protected habitats and species: the so-called provisional search zones for conservation objectives — version 0.2 (ANB, 2015).
