Dataset description

Talent Development and Leisure Experience/City Youth Service City of Antwerp wants to make the routes that children often use safer and more enjoyable with its play tissue plans. A Play Fabric Plan is a network of car-free or car-free cycling and walking routes in a particular neighbourhood or neighbourhood, supplemented with “play impulses” on the go. We first map out where children play, where they go to school, where they meet friends, where they go on discovery... We then look at what interventions are desirable, how we can improve safety along those routes, where there is a need for extra play space. By making the areas where children often come safer and more attractive, we encourage them to play and move outside more. In addition, they become more “self-employed” in the city. We encourage children to play more outdoors, but that is also contagious for adults. This way they get more on the streets, make social contacts with local residents, adapt their traffic behaviour... The neighborhood will thus become a more pleasant place to live. Unique approach In the (re)filling of public spaces, children and young people are rarely really involved. Unique to the concept of play tissue plans is that they just start from the perspective of children and young people. Through an intensive participation project with feedback moments, we ask them about their experiences, insights and opinions. We see them as equal partners, alongside adult residents and professionals. These professionals come from various services: mobility, youth, sport, coexistence, community management, participation... Just that interdisciplinary approach offers great added value.
