Share of GRAPA/RG beneficiaries among those aged 65 and over

The indicator reports the number of beneficiaries of the Senior Income Guarantee or Guaranteed Income (GRAPA or RG) to the population aged 65 and over as of January 1. The Income Guarantee for Older Persons (GRAPA) is a benefit granted to older people whose incomes are too low to ensure their subsistence. Since 2001, it replaces the former ‘Granted Income’ (RG). A GRAPA is obtained after an examination of the applicant’s livelihoods. It must also meet conditions of age, nationality and residence. The National Pension Office (ONP) examines entitlements to a GRAPA automatically in certain cases (request for retirement pension, pre-pensioner who reaches legal age). Individuals who wish to obtain a GRAPA can also apply to the ONP themselves. If the application is received positively, the applicant will receive an amount that will take into account his or her family situation. The basic amount shall apply where the applicant shares the same principal residence with one or more persons and the increased basic amount is allocated to the isolated applicant, i.e. who does not share his principal residence with other persons.
