Dataset description

Digital vector dataset with an overview of the occurrence and classification of soil associations in Flanders, as published in the Atlas of Belgium (issue 1972), on map sheets 11A and 11B (at map scale 1: 500 000). A soil association is a substantive and spatial grouping of soil series (legend-units of the Belgian soil map 1:20.000). An association is characterised by a fairly constant ratio between the surface occupied by a number of typical soil series. Often the nature of the association is indicated in terms of a dominant, associated and included series. For areas where no soil map was available in the early 1970s, extrapolations were made using geological information and expert knowledge.
