Dataset description

The slow road register contains the identified slow roads in Flanders. This means: roads mainly used for slow traffic (pedestrians, cyclists and/or riders, possibly combined with agricultural or service vehicles) and which are used publicly. The database also contains unofficial neighbourhood and footpaths that are not (no longer) accessible. The service also contains photo locations with hyperlink to a site photo of the site. The provinces proactively support the municipalities in local policy on slow roads. They contribute to the inventory of slow roads and for the preparation and implementation of policy plans. As a result, the provinces have many inventories of slow roads. These inventories have been drawn up at municipal level by various organisations (municipality itself, inter-municipal, regional landscapes, Trage Wegen vzw,...) with evolving methodologies. To this end, the five provinces have established a common database structure. All municipal inventories are gradually ‘translated’ into this uniform database structure. The data is also geometrically aligned with the Road Register. This is a collaboration between the provincial mobility services, with technical support by the GIS services. The data layer Trage Wegen is permanently supplemented as new inventories are converted into the interprovincial database structure (content) and Road Register (geometric).
