Dataset description

Purpose and short description The turnover includes all amounts (excluding VAT) corresponding to the sale by the taxable person of goods and services to third parties in Belgium or abroad. Population of taxable persons for VAT, of the following Nace codes (Nace 2008 nomenclature): divisions 45 and 46 and sections H to N. Frequency quarterly. Timing publication Results available 2 months after the reference period. Definitions Gross index (Transposition according to VAT returns): An index shows the evolution of a variable in terms of its value during the initial period, which is called the base period (in general, the base period corresponds to one year) Trend (VAT return conversion); The trend reflects the underlying level of the original series taking into account its long-term evolution. Seasonally-adjusted index (Transposition according to VAT returns): A seasonally-adjusted index takes into account the trend and “irregular component” of the original series, but not seasonal and calendar effects. Seasonal effects are effects that are directly caused by the seasons or that result from them through social habits. Calendar effects are effects caused by differences in the number of days per period, by variable holidays (e.g. Easter) or the occurrence of a leap year or not. Irregular component: The “irregular component” is the part of the series that cannot be explained by the seasonal component and the trend and thus corresponds to unexpected shocks (e.g. extreme weather phenomena, strikes).
