Dataset description

Drinking water can be produced from both ground and surface water. The water from which drinking water is extracted is called “raw water”. This indicator shows how much raw water the drinking water companies use in Flanders, mainly to make drinking water from it (a small part is also sold as raw water or is lost during production) and what the shares of ground and surface water are. However, the drinking water consumed in Flanders is not only produced in Flanders itself. For example, drinking water is purchased in Wallonia, the Netherlands, France... The water companies also sell drinking water in Flanders for use outside Flanders. In order to visualise the impact of drinking water production on the water management in Flanders, only the raw water extracted in Flanders is taken into account here.
