Dataset description

Protected areas — special water protection areas are those areas where additional protection measures need to be implemented in order to protect water and the aquatic environment, they are determined on the basis of the Water Act (OG 153/09, 63/11, 130/11, 56/13, 14/14) and special regulations. Protected areas — Special Water Protection Areas comprise: A — Water protection areas intended for human consumption (surface water protected areas, groundwater protected areas, source sanitation zones, areas intended for the abstraction of water intended for human consumption); B — Areas suitable for the protection of economically significant aquatic organisms (areas of waters conducive to freshwater fish life, areas of waters conducive to life and growth of bivalve molluscs), C — Bathing and recreation areas (on inland surface waters — bathing sites, at sea — sea beaches), D — Eutrophication and Nitrate Vulnerable Areas (Eutrophic, Sensitive Areas, Nitrate Vulnerable Areas of Agricultural Origin), E — areas intended for the protection of habitats or species where maintaining or improving the status of waters is an essential element of their protection in accordance with the Water Act and/or Nature Protection Regulations (Natura 2000 ecological network, protected natural values, protected areas of nature), F — areas of poor water exchange in coastal waters, sensitivity assessed in relation to urban waste water discharges. According to the Croatian Waters Act, the Register of Protected Areas — Special Water Protection Areas has been developed and regularly updated and supplemented in accordance with the Act prescribed by the Procedure.
