The Central Personal Register (CPR) is a central, nationwide basic register. The main purpose is to assign to everyone living in Denmark a personal identification number (CPR number) for their secure identification. In addition, it is a purpose to register basic personal data about the persons concerned, such as the address of residence, which may be disclosed to public authorities and private individuals who have a legitimate interest in doing so. The CPR thus contains only personal data related to the data subjects. The CPR administration operates through the Central Personal Register as a central provider of personal data to public authorities and to the private sector. The CPR administration is organisationally located in the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Interior.
