Dataset description

This opinion poll, managed and organised by the Public Opinion Analysis Unit of DG X "Information, Communication, Culture and Audio-visual Media", was conducted at the request of DG XXIV "Consumer Policy and Consumer Health Protection". The data were collected from all Member States of the European Union between 12 April and 18 May 1999. INRA (EUROPE) - European Coordination Office, in Brussels, was responsible for general coordination. The report examines what Europeans think about issues relating to consumer associations. It is divided into a number of sections which examine: how much Europeans know about consumer associations; sources of information which made them aware of the associations; how influential they consider consumer associations to be; the roles they believe consumer associations should play; the problems they associate with consumer associations; the methods which should allow such associations to communicate more effectively with the public; relevant sources of financing; and the possibility of introducing fees for certain services. The respondents were also given the opportunity to provide details of their own experience with consumer associations by indicating the type of information they had been seeking and the information they received. #####The results by volumes are distributed as follows: * Volume A: Countries * Volume AA: Groups of countries * Volume A' (AP): Trends * Volume AA' (AAP): Trends of groups of countries * Volume B: EU/socio-demographics * Volume B' (BP) : Trends of EU/ socio-demographics * Volume C: Country/socio-demographics ---- Researchers may also contact GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences: [https://www.gesis.org/eurobarometer](https://www.gesis.org/eurobarometer)
