Dataset description

The aim of this survey, commissioned by the Directorate-General Health and Consumer Protection of the European Commission is to assess the attitude of Europeans to tobacco. It is not the first survey on this subject. The last such survey was carried out in autumn 2002. The current questionnaire has, however, been considerably redrafted in relation to the previous survey and only a few questions can be used to draw comparisons. The main themes addressed in this survey are: - the level and frequency of tobacco consumption, - the behaviour and opinion of smokers and non-smokers with regard to places where people smoke, - the attitude and opinion of Europeans to tobacco smoke and its harmful effects, - the extent to which smokers combine tobacco with other substances, - and, finally, the impact and effectiveness of anti-tobacco campaigns on smokers and those who have given up moking. This survey was carried out in two stages: - in September and October 2005 in the 25 European Union Member States, - in November and December 2005 in the two accession countries (Bulgaria and Rumania), the two candidate countries (Croatia and Turkey) and the Turkish Cypriot Community. #####The results by volumes are distributed as follows: * Volume A: Countries * Volume AA: Groups of countries * Volume A' (AP): Trends * Volume AA' (AAP): Trends of groups of countries * Volume B: EU/socio-demographics * Volume B' (BP) : Trends of EU/ socio-demographics * Volume C: Country/socio-demographics ---- Researchers may also contact GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences: [https://www.gesis.org/eurobarometer](https://www.gesis.org/eurobarometer)
