Dataset description

The vector dataset shows the value for a series of individual European cities (included in Urban Audit) of the proportion of the population living in flood risk areas, based on the 1km grid population data (Geostat 2011) and the potential floodplains. The potential floodplain captures the area that could be flooded during a flood event with a return period of one in 100 years, as well as the river area. This dataset provides an European overivew of the number of people living in cities who may be at risk of flooding and emphasises the need to adapt. The dataset is derived from the Flood hazard map for Europe - 100-year return period from the European Commission, Joint Research Centre (2016) based on LISFLOOD model (Burek et al. 2013) and the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service dataset of Delineation of Riparian Zone (potential riparian zone layer) with temporal reference 2011-2013.
